BANDUNG - The West Java Regional Police (Poda) stated that the process of identifying the victims of the landslide in Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, by the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team was hampered by the condition of the body which had undergone significant changes.

Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Kombes Hendra Rochmawan, said that most of the bodies found had been at the location for more than six days, making it difficult to identify the identity.

"The condition of the body, which has been more than six days, causes decay and changes in tissues, making it a challenge in the identification process," said Hendra, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 4.

However, he ensured that the identification process could still run by utilizing various forensic methods available.

"So far there have been no obstacles that cannot be overcome. The postmortem and postmortem teams can still use various techniques to dig up the victim's physical identity data," he said.

Hendra said that so far 68 bags of bodies have been successfully identified by the West Java Police DVI team, while another 17 bags of bodies are still undergoing the identification process.

"Usually in the afternoon the DVI team will reconcile the data ante mortem and post mortem before announcing the victim's identity," he said.

His party emphasized that the identification process would continue to be carried out to the maximum extent to ensure that all victims could be identified and handed over to their families in accordance with the applicable procedures.

"Because based on the reports we received, the number of missing people continues to be updated every day. We will serve until the entire process is completed," said HendraRochmawan.
