Minister of LH encourages local governments to enforce the law on waste disposal violators

JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq encourages the South Tangerang City Government (Pemkot) to take legal enforcement steps for perpetrators of waste disposal and environmental pollution in the area.

"We will continue to take enforcement measures, provide a legal approach to all business units to support the efforts of the Mayor of Tangerang to carry out good waste management efforts," said Minister of LH Hanif Faisal Nurofiq as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 4.

According to him, legal action is needed to reduce the burden of garbage generation, especially in the South Tangerang area, by generally allowing regional heads to enforce existing rules in accordance with their local regulations.

"The imposition of this sanction is to complete the garbage in their respective places, so that it does not burden the Mayor (of Tangerang) in handling the garbage so much," said the Minister of LH.

The Ministry of Environment (KLH) was emphasized by Hanif to support regional heads to take firm action, including prosecuting managers and violators, to ensure that waste management runs optimally.

However, as a form of commitment and support from the KLH for law enforcement, he said, the LH Gakkum Team will continue to supervise and monitor conditions in the field.

"Once again, today our Gakkum Team is still on the ground with the local government team to carry out supervision," said Minister of LH HanifFaisol.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Tangerang Benyamin Davnie said that his party was currently conducting an evaluation and arrangement related to environmental cleanliness by educating the community in the area.

In addition, the Tangsel City Government will emphasize law enforcement for violators of any waste disposal, whether it is for business actors or individuals in the surrounding community.

"In the future, if there are still violations of regional regulations on handling cleanliness in South Tangerang, we will carry out discipline, law enforcement, as well as the imposition of criminal sanctions," he said.

He also urged all related components and residents in the South Tangerang City area to be able to help the government in creating a clean culture and maintaining environmental sustainability, as an implementation of President Prabowo Subianto's Indonesian ASRI Movement (Safe, Healthy, Resik, Beautiful).

"We hope from the community is individual awareness and collective awareness not to throw away garbage indiscriminately to maintain environmental cleanliness," he said.
