JAKARTA - Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mark Rutte said on Tuesday, Ukraine will soon receive a military presence from allied forces once a peace deal with Russia is reached.

Speaking in Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, in Kyiv, Secretary-General Rutte said ground, air and naval forces from countries belonging to the informal group of "willing coalitions" would be deployed to Ukraine "soon."

"Ukraine needs strong support. The coalition that is willing has made progress in terms of guarantees, as mentioned by (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky. Once a peace agreement is signed, armed forces, aircraft in the sky, and maritime support from NATO countries that have agreed will immediately appear," he said, launching Anadolu (4/2).

Furthermore, Secretary General Rutte assured the members of parliament that NATO's attention to Ukraine's security would not diminish despite other global challenges.

"Now we focus on world events that may cause concern, so our attention may be divided. But I want to assure you that our attention is not diverted from Ukraine. Ukraine has been and remains the center of our security thinking, and we are ready to provide rapid and consistent support," he said.

According to the Secretary-General of NATO, the alliance maintains daily dialogue with Ukraine and supplies equipment every day so that Ukrainian troops can defend themselves now and prevent future aggression.

He said 75 percent of all missiles for the front line and 90 percent of missiles for air defense have arrived in Ukraine through the Ukrainian Needs Priority List (PURL) mechanism.

"Through the PURL mechanism, millions of euros have been received from allies and partners. Since last summer, we have provided 75 percent of all missiles arriving in Ukraine, which are intended for the front lines, and 90 percent that protect the airspace," he said.

Rutte's secretary-general added that NATO understands Ukraine's urgent needs and continues to work to ensure delivery through PURL and other channels.

PURL serves as the main reference document for the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (meeting "Ramstein format"), where more than 50 allied defense ministers coordinate assistance.

It is known that US President Donald Trump has led efforts to end the war in Ukraine, which has been ongoing since February 2022.

Russia and Ukraine are scheduled to discuss a possible peace agreement in US-mediated talks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on February 4-5. This is the second round of the two countries' second trilateral meeting, which was originally held last weekend.
