JAKARTA - Iranian Supreme Leader's Advisor Ali Khamenei, Ali Shamkhani on Tuesday said there was no reason for Iran to move all its nuclear material, as the country could reduce its uranium enrichment to 20 percent in exchange for certain concessions.

"There is no reason to move the stored [nuclear] material from Iran... If they are so worried, the 60 percent enrichment can be reduced to 20 percent, but they must offer something in return," Shamkhani told Lebanon's Al Mayadeen TV channel, quoted by Sputnik, Tuesday, February 3.

The official also confirmed that there has been no initiative to extract enriched uranium from the debris of the nuclear facility that was attacked by the US last year, adding that negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are ongoing.

"The volume of enriched uranium available is still unknown, because part of our supplies are buried under the ruins, and there is no plan to extract it, because it would be very dangerous," Shamkhani said.

Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium is reported to include 400 kilograms enriched to 60 percent, while weapons-grade uranium requires enrichment of around 90 percent.

According to US and Israeli officials, this material is located in three nuclear sites damaged by the US attack in June, without any possibility for Iran to access it.

Meanwhile, Iran denies the military dimension of its nuclear program. In June 2025, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the agency had not seen concrete evidence that Iran had an active nuclear weapons program.
