Police Investigate the Throwing of Molotov Bombs at a Middle School in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan

Kubu Raya - The Kubu Raya Police are still investigating the motive for throwing Molotov bombs in the environment of SMP Negeri 3 Sungai Raya, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, which occurred on Tuesday around 10.40 WIB.

"Yes, around 10.40 WIB there was an incident at SMPN 3 Sungai Raya. Currently, the Kalbar Police Forensic Laboratory team and the Kubu Raya Police Inafis Team are carrying out the investigation of the crime scene," said Kubu Raya Police Chief, Kompol Andri Syahroni, to a number of journalists in Sungai Raya, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

He said, after the incident, the police immediately moved quickly to secure the location and secure the suspected perpetrator to prevent further interference.

He said the suspected perpetrator had been secured at the Sungai Raya Post and was now undergoing intensive examination.

"The alleged perpetrator has been detained. Currently, we are still investigating and deepening this incident," he said.

Based on initial information, the suspected perpetrator is suspected of being one of the students at the school. However, the police have not concluded the motive or background of the action.

"For the time being, it is suspected that one of the students, but we are still investigating. Regarding whether this is terrorism or other, for the time being it has not come to that," he said.

Previously, the Deputy Head of the Kubu Raya Police Public Relations, Aiptu Ade explained, the perpetrator came to the school environment and threw a bottle containing fuel which triggered a spark and a cloud of smoke.

Fortunately, the school and the surrounding residents were quick to carry out initial handling so that the fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread to the main building or classrooms.

"There were no casualties. The situation was quickly brought under control," he said.

The Sungai Raya Police personnel immediately secured the location, while the Inafis Team of the Kubu Raya Police Criminal Investigation Unit collected evidence for the investigation.

Police ensured that the security situation at the school was under control and that teaching and learning activities continued with the supervision of the police.

The Deputy Police Chief also appealed to the public, especially parents of students and teachers, to remain calm and not easily influenced by unverified information.

"We ask the public to remain calm and recheck the information that is circulating. Trust the police to handle this case. We will provide a complete report after the results of the investigation and the forensic laboratory come out," he said.
