JAKARTA - Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Praswad Nugraha said that the KPK could carry out a massive hand-in-hand operation (OTT) if it was equipped with qualified tools.

This was conveyed in response to the request of Deputy Chairman of the KPK Fitroh Rohcahyanto who alluded to his agency needing sophisticated interception tools to catch corruptors. This statement was made by the former Director of Prosecution of the KPK when speaking at a meeting with Commission III of the DPR some time ago.

"We are optimistic that if the KPK is given support for more sophisticated tools, the KPK can carry out OTT at least 30 times per year," said Praswad in a written statement quoted on Monday, February 2.

"Support for sophisticated tools in position identification, communication, and transactions will make it easier for investigators to conduct field operations," he said.

Even so, the support for this tool must also be accompanied by the development of human resources and independence in law enforcement.

"Without independence, sophisticated tools will not function optimally. Collaboration on the modernization of sophisticated tools to strengthening independence is the key to making the KPK more effective in carrying out its role," he said.

"This is the most appropriate momentum for President Prabowo Subianto to prove his commitment to eradicating corruption in Indonesia. Without the support of structures, superstructures, and infrastructure to the KPK, Indonesia's dream of being free of corruption will be a mere pipe dream," continued Praswad.

As previously reported, Deputy Chairman of the KPK Fitroh Rohcahyanto said that his surveillance tools were actually outdated for catching corruptors. Because of this condition, the KPK asked Commission III of the DPR to provide a large budget so that it could carry out procurement.

"What is it, in fact, the biggest obstacle in the KPK other than the lack of human resources, yes, give us sophisticated tools," said Fitroh in a meeting with Commission III of the DPR at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 28.

With a new, more sophisticated tool, Fitroh guarantees that silent operations and active enforcement can be more trengginas. "So that OTT is not just one a month," he said.

"Less sophisticated, sir, less sophisticated. This is not up to date," he continued without elaborating.
