Katulampa Dam Alert 3, DKI Provincial Government Ready to Face Potential Flooding

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo emphasized that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has prepared for potential flooding following the status of the Katulampa Dam, which is at Alert Level 3 since Thursday (29/1) evening.

"From yesterday, 15 hours ago, it was Alert 3. We in Jakarta have prepared ourselves for that," said Pramono when he was met at the Rorotan area, North Jakarta, Friday, January 30, reported by ANTARA.

He explained that the rising water level also occurred at the Manggarai Water Gate.

To reduce water pressure along the Ciliwung River, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government opened a number of water flows in areas that have not been touched.

"Several areas that have not been touched must be opened to allow water to flow into the sea. This has been done since about two hours ago," explained Pramono.

He also hopes that this step can reduce the discharge of the Ciliwung River, which is currently experiencing an increase.

However, he admitted that the condition of the high tide also affected the speed of the water flow to the sea.

"Now it is rising. If the tide goes down, I am sure the water can be pushed into the sea immediately," said Pramono.

According to him, in terms of infrastructure, flood control in the Ciliwung River is actually adequate, including the condition of the water gates which are considered to function well.

"For Ciliwung, the facilities for its river flow are very good, including its gates. It's just that the sea level is still relatively high," said Pramono.
