JAKARTA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey warned that a US attack on Iran would be a mistake, urging the two countries to resolve their disputes through diplomacy.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Hakan Fidan said "it would be wrong to start another war", calling for regional cooperation as the US deployed military assets in the Middle East amid rising tensions with Iran.

Despite the rhetoric between the two countries increasing, Foreign Minister Fidan underlined that diplomatic resolutions could still be achieved.

"Iran is ready to renegotiate the nuclear issue," said Foreign Minister Fidan, launching Anadolu (28/1),

The top Turkish diplomat further suggested US officials to address the problem with Iran gradually, rather than seeking a comprehensive deal.

"My advice is always to my American friends, solve the problem one by one with Iran. Start with nuclear, solve it, then the others," he said.

"If you combine all of this, it will be very difficult for our Iranian friends to digest and really process it and get through it," he continued.

"And sometimes, it may seem embarrassing to them. It will be very difficult to explain not only to themselves, but also to the leaders," he said.

He also said Iran could occupy "the perfect place" in the regional order but must build trust with neighboring countries.

"They (Iran) need to create trust in the region," he said.

"They need to pay attention to how they are seen by regional countries, because they are not going anywhere; we are not going anywhere," he said.

Foreign Minister Fidan emphasized that regardless of ideological and sectarian differences, regional countries must cooperate in the nation-state system.
