German officials said on Friday that Palestinians must have a say in the United States' plan to rebuild the war-torn Gaza Strip.

"Yesterday, we noted the plan presented in Davos. The Palestinian people in Gaza must continue to be actively involved in all plans and their rights must be upheld," said Deputy Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Josef Hinterseher to reporters in Berlin, launching Anadolu (23/1).

Hinterseher referred to a presentation made by US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner during the inauguration of the Peace Council in Davos, which showed a new Gaza with high-rise buildings and a coastline that attracts tourists in addition to housing, agricultural and industrial units.

However, he welcomed the US announcement of an upcoming reconstruction conference, calling it a "significant signal."

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, Lisa Royaee, said there were "clear red lines in terms of reconstruction (in Gaza), which means no annexation and the focus must be on the population."

The formation of the council coincides with the launch of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which halted Israel's war on Gaza that has killed more than 71,000 people in two years.

The council, which is chaired by Trump, was originally formed to oversee the Gaza ceasefire and reconstruction, but its charter expanded its mandate to peace-building in all areas affected by or at risk of conflict.
