JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said that a framework for a potential future agreement on Greenland and the wider Arctic region has been developed.

"Based on the very productive meeting between me and NATO Secretary General (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Mark Rutte, we have formed a framework for future agreements regarding Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," Trump wrote on Truth Social quoted Thursday, January 22.

Trump claimed that if completed, the agreement would provide significant benefits, not only for the US but also for all NATO member countries.

Previously, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to annex Greenland, a Danish autonomous territory, in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. However, to achieve this goal, Trump admitted that the US would not use violence.

He then threatened that the tariff relaxation for European countries that support Greenland would not be implemented again starting February 1, 2026.

Trump also said that the US had been "very foolish" to return Greenland to Denmark after World War II.

He added that the US intends to annex Greenland from Denmark in order to deploy a large-scale Golden Dome missile defense system and expand its migration policy in the European Union.
