JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate for Protection of Indonesian Citizens, in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, has successfully repatriated 90 Indonesian citizens from the Myanmar-Thailand border.
This is the third wave of repatriation of Indonesian citizens to Indonesia, in line with the Myanmar government's crackdown on online scamming and gambling activities in the Myawaddy area.
"The Indonesian citizens arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday morning, January 22, 2026, at approximately 5:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time," stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs further stated that the Indonesian citizens were immediately handed over to the relevant agencies for further handling and assistance according to applicable procedures upon their arrival in Indonesia.
It was explained that this repatriation is part of the Indonesian government's ongoing efforts to assist Indonesian citizens affected by the Myanmar government's operations.
To date, 230 Indonesian citizens are still in the process of being repatriated in stages. Repatriation is currently prioritized for Indonesian citizens who have expressed their willingness to independently finance their return tickets.
Previously, in the first wave of repatriations, 56 Indonesian citizens/Indonesian migrant workers were repatriated from Myawaddy on December 8, 2025, via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 1. 2.
They were received by the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok in Mae Sot, Thailand, and then continued their flight to Jakarta via Bangkok on December 9, 2025. Meanwhile, in the second wave, 54 (fifty-four) Indonesian citizens/PMIB arrived in Indonesia on December 13, 2025.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges all prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to always follow official procedures and applicable regulations, both in Indonesia and in their destination countries.
"Compliance with official procedures is crucial to avoid the risk of fraud, exploitation, and legal issues that could harm individuals and their families in Indonesia," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned.
The ministry added that it will continue to monitor developments in the situation and ensure the safe, swift, and coordinated repatriation of all Indonesian citizens.
