JAKARTA - The Ministry of Social Affairs has disbursed compensation funds to 355 heirs of victims who died due to flash flood disasters accompanied by landslides that hit Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf said that the distribution of compensation was carried out as part of the recovery effort for the families of disaster victims who were left behind.

"The heirs received a compensation of Rp. 15 million per deceased victim, while the severely injured victim received Rp. 5 million," he said in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, January 20.

The distribution of compensation is carried out through cooperation between the Ministry of Social Affairs with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the local government, with a data validation mechanism by the regent or mayor who is verified by BNPB.

Based on data from the Ministry of Social Affairs, compensation for the deceased victims has been distributed to 355 heirs spread across three provinces. Among others, the Aceh Province, the compensation recipients come from Pidie Regency with two souls, Pidie Jaya Regency 30 souls, South East Aceh Regency 12 souls, and West Pasaman Regency eight souls.

In North Sumatra Province, compensation was given to the heirs of the victims in the city of Sibolga as many as 54 souls and Langkat Regency 16 souls.

Meanwhile, in West Sumatra Province, compensation was distributed to the heirs of the victims in Padang Panjang City with 25 souls, Agam Regency 195 souls, and Padang Pariaman Regency 13 souls.

Saifullah Yusuf said that the number of recipients of assistance is still potentially increasing as the data validation process continues. Currently, it is recorded that the payment of assistance for 62 people in Aceh and 118 people in North Sumatra is being processed through the State-Owned Bank Association (Himbara) banking system.

In addition, the assistance for heirs who are still in the stage of disbursement by the local social services includes 439 people in Aceh, 109 people and 30 severe injury victims in North Sumatra, and 25 people in West Sumatra.

"We will distribute the compensation after all the data is signed by the regent or mayor of the local area," said Saifullah.
