JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya has confirmed that the driver of a car who stubbornly went against the direction and entered through the Tebet Toll Exit, South Jakarta, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, has been sanctioned with a fine. The action was previously recorded on video and went viral on social media.
"Action has been taken against the driver in the form of a fine," said Head of the Traffic Police, AKBP Dhanar Dono, in his statement, Monday, January 19, 2026.
Dhanar explained that the gray Honda City Hatchback car was initially seen entering through the toll exit and allegedly aimed to avoid paying the toll. Unit 1 Jaya 1 Sat PJR Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya then conducted a search for the vehicle with the police number D 1671 UBH which went against the flow.
"Officers went to the location of the vehicle at the Setiabudi Sky Garden Tower Sky Apartment, South Jakarta, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at around 14.00 WIB," he said.
When clarified, the driver admitted that he had accidentally committed the violation.
"The driver said he didn't know the direction of the road because he didn't pay attention to the traffic sign," said Dhanar.
Previously, a video uploaded to the @indie.driver Instagram account showed a gray car going against the direction and entering the Inner City Toll (Dalkot) through the Tebet exit.
In the video, the car appears to come from the direction of the toll exit and continues to drive even though there are vehicles from the opposite direction, before finally turning left and entering the toll road.
"People are messing up. Wow, it's crazy," said the video recorder in the upload.
