Kementrans Buka Beasiswa Patriot untuk 1.000 Mahasiswa

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transmigration (Kementrans) targets 1,000 to 1,100 selected students from seven national state universities to receive the Patriot Scholarship, which is planned to be launched for the first time next month.

Minister of Transmigration M Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said that the universities that became partners of the program were the University of Indonesia (UI), IPB University, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology Surabaya (ITS).

"We really want to produce very superior human resources, not just superior human resources, but very superior," said M Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 19.

He said that currently the selection stage of scholarship recipients is still being discussed with various related parties. Based on the initial discussion, the prospective scholarship recipients are required to first be accepted at one of the seven partner state universities.

"Only then is there a central test. Well, this central test we will delve into psychologically (from each applicant)," he said.

The selection also assesses the roadmap prepared by the participants regarding the career path plan that they will take during their education until after graduation.

"Including we will pay attention to the roadmap of the person concerned (candidate participant), as well as what the career path is in the future. So, we want to get human resources that can really be expected to participate in providing better changes (for transmigrant communities)," said Iftitah.

Later, the Patriot Scholarship recipients will study at three Patriot Campuses being built by Kementrans, namely in Batam, Riau Islands; Mamuju, West Sulawesi; and Merauke, South Papua. The three locations were chosen based on the economic potential of each region.

He said that Batam has the potential for the development of industry, fisheries, and marine; Mamuju has the potential for the development of rare-earth metals and agriculture; while Merauke has the potential for the development of agriculture, livestock, plantations, and fisheries.

His party is also currently rushing to discuss the technical details of the implementation of the scholarship program, which is planned to be launched next month.

"Later we will discuss more intensively regarding the study program, incentives, as well as the requirements that must be met, then also later the next steps, which will definitely be launched next month, Insya Allah," he added.
