Police Investigate Motive of a Same-Sex Couple Who Commits Sexual Assault on Transjakarta

JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the North Jakarta Metro Police confirmed the arrest of two men who committed sexual assault on a Transjakarta bus in the Gedong Panjang Port Toll Road area, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta.

The two perpetrators, with initials HW and FTR, are a same-sex couple who committed indecent acts in a public place.

"We have secured two men with initials HW and FTR. Both are suspected of committing indecent acts in public spaces that caused a woman to be a victim," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of North Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Onkoseno Grandiarso Sukahar to reporters, Friday, January 16, 2026.

Both perpetrators are still under investigation by Unit VI of the Protection of Women and Children (PPA) of the North Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

"The motive is still being investigated. However, both perpetrators are working as private employees," he said.

The incident occurred when the Transjakarta bus was full of passengers. The two perpetrators are a same-sex couple.

One of the perpetrators deliberately removed the genitals of his same-sex partner and then performed an exhibitionist act until he released a liquid that hit another female passenger.

"The victim (female passenger) has made an official report at the North Jakarta Metro Police," said AKBP Onkoseno.

The female passenger victim had thought the liquid came from the air conditioner. However, after realizing it, the victim immediately screamed.

The screams attracted the attention of other passengers. The victim then realized that he was a victim of harassment.

Then the TransJakarta conductor and a number of passengers immediately secured the two men suspected of being the perpetrators. Both were then handed over to the police for further processing.

Both perpetrators were charged with public indecency as stipulated in the Criminal Code (KUHP).

"We urge the public not to hesitate to report if they experience or witness sexual harassment, especially in public spaces and public transportation," he said.
