President Corrects IKN Design and Function: Heat, Forest Fires and Embung are Concerns

JAKARTA - The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi revealed a correction to the design and function of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The correction does not stop at the shape of the building, but targets the way the new capital region faces climate risks, ranging from extreme heat to potential forest fires.

"Design in a broad sense, yes, including functions," Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, January 15.

He explained that one of the concerns was the addition of ponds as part of environmental anticipation. According to him, the climate conditions in the IKN area have two problems at once, namely hot temperatures and the threat of forest fires because the area is dominated by forests.

"Because there is a climate problem, it is one hot, second... there is also the potential for forest fires. So it is asked to also think about designs to anticipate," said Prasetyo.

He added, the Head of the IKN Authority has reported a number of mitigation methods that have begun to be implemented, including the installation of sensors at several points. This method, continued Prasetyo, is asked to continue to be tested.

The emphasis on correction, said Prasetyo, was in line with the President's direction since the beginning of the construction of IKN. The President gave special attention to accelerating the construction of facilities that will be used by the legislative and judicial institutions, while ensuring that the design and function run according to the needs.

Previously, during the inauguration of Taruna Nusantara High School Malang Campus, East Java, Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Prasetyo said, "From the beginning, the President emphasized speeding up the construction of facilities that will be used by the legislative and judicial branches. This morning he received an update and made some corrections".

According to him, the correction specifically targets two main things: the design and function of the building. The President also asked the IKN Authority together with the Ministry of PUPR to continue to make improvements so that the construction runs according to the direction.
