JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reminded of the potential for flooding following the still high intensity of rainfall in the January-February period which is predicted by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) as the peak of the rainy season.
"We convey this flood potential map as an early warning. The public, especially those living in vulnerable areas, we urge to increase vigilance and preparedness to face the possibility of flooding," said Head of the BPBD Banyumas Regency Dwi Irawan Sukma in Purwokerto, Banyumas, Thursday, quoted by Antara.
He said, based on the BPBD mapping which refers to BMKG data, a number of sub-districts in Banyumas are included in the category of medium to high flood potential.
According to him, the mapping is the basis for local governments in taking mitigation and disaster preparedness steps.
In this case, the areas with medium flood potential include Ajibarang, Banyumas, Cilongok, Gumelar, Jatilawang, Kalibagor, Kebasen, Kemranjen, Lumbir, Patikraja, Purwojati, Purwokerto Selatan, Rawalo, Sokaraja, Somagede, Sumpiuh, Tambak, and Wangon.
Meanwhile, the areas with high flood potential include Ajibarang, Baturraden, Cilongok, Gumelar, Kedungbanteng, Kembaran, Patikraja, Purwojati, Purwokerto Barat, Purwokerto Selatan, Purwokerto Timur, Purwokerto Utara, Sokaraja, and Wangon.
"The potential for flooding is influenced by a number of factors, including high rainfall, river basin conditions, drainage system capacity, and human activities in flood-prone areas," he said.
Regarding this, he said that the Banyumas BPBD had instructed internal ranks, disaster volunteers, as well as sub-district and village governments to take anticipatory steps, such as checking flood-prone points, logistics readiness, and strengthening cross-sector coordination.
In addition, he said, the public was urged not to throw garbage into the river, routinely clean the water channels in their respective neighborhoods, and immediately report if there were signs of potential disasters.
"If there is an emergency, the public can contact the BPBD Banyumas Call Center which is on standby 24 hours a day at 0815-4880-8886," said Irawan.
