JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture has requested an additional budget of Rp. 5.1 trillion for the cost of recovering the agricultural sector in three provinces affected by the Sumatra disaster. The reason is that the budget available in the State Budget is only around Rp. 1.49 trillion.
This request was conveyed by the Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman, in a working meeting with Commission IV of the DPR at the DPR building, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 14.
"The Ministry of Agriculture is trying to help restore the agricultural sector in the three provinces affected by the post-disaster that occurred by optimizing the available budget in 2026 and by proposing additional budgets," said Amran.
"If possible, the allocation of the 2026 State Budget for the Ministry of Agriculture, which is ready to be rolled out for post-disaster recovery, reaches 1.49 trillion," he continued.
The allocation of this budget consists of the rehabilitation of light rice fields, irrigation of Rp736.2 billion, food crop seed assistance of Rp68.6 billion, land rehabilitation and provision of plantation seeds of Rp50.4 billion, and provision of agricultural infrastructure and facilities of Rp641.2 billion.
"We prioritize the allocation of this assistance to the most affected areas in three provinces, especially the damaged light and medium rice fields. As for the rice fields that have suffered severe damage, their rehabilitation requires strong synergy with the ATR/BPN ministries related to space arrangement and the PU ministry for repair of irrigation networks," explained Amran.
In addition to optimizing the allocation of the current budget in the 2026 agricultural ministry's state budget, Amran estimated that the budget needed to help the recovery of the agricultural sector in the three affected provinces would require an additional budget of Rp5.1 trillion.
The calculation comes from the need for the recovery of the agricultural sector in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, West Sumatra which needs to be carried out comprehensively and includes all affected agricultural locations.
"For this reason, additional budget support is needed beyond the current capacity. Given that other priority programs in order to achieve and maintain sustainable food self-sufficiency must continue," he said.
"The proposed additional budget allocation of Rp5.1 trillion is focused on implementing additional rice field rehabilitation worth Rp3.4 trillion, plantation areas of Rp456.4 billion, holticulture seed assistance of Rp19.1 billion, livestock feed of Rp262.8 billion, infrastructure facilities of Rp674.7 billion, rehabilitation of other supporting facilities Rp291 billion," explained Amran.
Therefore, Amran asked the House of Representatives Commission IV to submit an additional budget for the Ministry of Agriculture of Rp. 5.1 trillion to the Ministry of Finance for the needs of the post-disaster recovery of the agricultural sector in Sumatra.
"For this reason, on this occasion we ask for support from the leadership of members of Commission IV of the DPR RI, to support the allocation of additional budget in order to accelerate the post-disaster recovery process, especially the recovery of the agricultural sector," concluded Amran.
