Two Curanmor Perpetrators in Palmerah Shot by Police for Fighting while Arrested

JAKARTA - The Sub Directorate of Crime and Violence (Subdit Jatanras) of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Metro Jaya Police arrested two perpetrators of armed motorcycle theft (curanmor senpi) who acted in the Palmerah area, West Jakarta. The two perpetrators, each with the initials Vebran Vernando alias VV (33) and Robi Candra alias RC (43).

Director of Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, said the two suspects were forced to be paralyzed with shots in the legs because they resisted and endangered officers during the arrest process.

"As we see, for the two suspects because the person concerned carried a firearm and endangered the officers at the time of the arrest, we took legal action with firm and measured action," said Iman at a press conference at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Monday, January 12, 2026.

Iman revealed that investigators were still investigating the origin of the two firearms used by the perpetrators. In one of the actions, one of the suspects even fired a shot, causing a resident to be injured.

"Regarding the source of the fire weapon, the investigation team is still tracing where it was purchased. Hopefully in the near future we can get more complete information regarding the firearm," he said.

In addition to the two main perpetrators, the police also arrested another perpetrator with the initials AA (31). AA is known to have acted as an intermediary who bridged the delivery of stolen motorbikes to the receiver.

Based on the results of the interim examination, the motive for the perpetrators to carry out the action was driven by economic factors. They admitted that they were desperate for the need to pay off debts.

"For the motive itself, from the results of the investigation, this is an economic motive in order to meet the need to pay debts," explained Iman.

However, the police are still investigating the amount of debt in question and its source, including the possibility of having a link with online loans.

"For his debt, we are still investigating, because we are focusing on the criminal acts concerned," he added.

Iman also explained that the arrests of the perpetrators were carried out in different locations. The perpetrator of VV was arrested in Yogyakarta, then the development of the case led to the arrest of RC in Bandung. Meanwhile, the perpetrator of AA was secured in the West Jakarta area.

"One of the perpetrators was detained in the Yogyakarta area. From the information, we managed to arrest the second perpetrator in the Bandung area. And the third perpetrator was detained in the West Jakarta area," he concluded.
