BATAM - The Directorate of Samapta of the Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda Kepri) deployed a Karhutla tactical vehicle (rantis) and seven security and rescue personnel (pamat) to help put out a fire at a workshop in Tanjung Uncang, Batam City, Saturday night.

The Director of the North Sumatra Police, Kombes Pol. Joko Adi Nugroho, said that the deployment of the Rantis Karhutla Samapta North Sumatra Police and the Pamat personnel was an initiative of his ranks in helping the Batam City Fire Department handle the fire that occurred next to the Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque.

"We are taking the initiative to deploy Karhutla tactical vehicles carrying 2,000 liters of water to help the extinguishing process," said Joko.

The fire occurred at around 17.30 WIB, the fire grew and black smoke billowed into the air, attracting the attention of the public who were worried that the fire could spread to other areas, especially other vital objects, such as mosques and public fuel filling stations (SPBU).

A total of four fire trucks from the Batam City Fire Service have been deployed to put out the fire.

Until 20.40 WIB, it was reported that the fire had been extinguished, currently it was still being cooled. The object that was burned was a workshop building containing thousands of used tires of various types of vehicles and heavy equipment.

The fire caused traffic jams on the main road of Tanjung Uncang from Barelang to Batu Aji or vice versa.

The fire occurred at the factory's return time, so many vehicles passed by, plus the community's activity watching the flames.

"Alhamdulillah the fire has been successfully extinguished, initial information there were no casualties, but it is still being confirmed including the cause of the fire and the losses. Currently, members are still on duty in the field," said Joko.

Joko appealed to the people of Batam City to increase caution, especially during the dry season and the current West wind season, so as not to burn garbage carelessly which can trigger a fire.

The video of the fire next to the Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque spread widely on social media because the large fire with black smoke made residents around it worried.
