Monorail Pole Broken for 20 Years is Considered to be a Waste, DKI DPRD Supports Demolition

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Wibi Andrino supports the plan of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung to dismantle the broken monorail pole on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.

He considered that the move was right considering that the monorail project had been abandoned for a long time. According to Wibi, the existence of monorail poles that have not been functional for years has actually created a messy impression in one of the main areas of the Capital City.

"It has been abandoned for quite some time, 20 years and it has become a view that is not worth seeing. Just do it immediately, don't make it too long, wide. Do it immediately," Wibi told reporters, Friday, January 9.

However, Wibi reminded that safety aspects should be the main concern in the process of dismantling the monorail pole. According to him, the safety factor of workers should not be ignored.

"The first of the security factor sector is important. The safety of workers must also be considered. Do not let this cleaning lead to other problems," said Wibi.

Apart from safety, he also highlighted the potential impact of demolition on traffic flow on Jalan Rasuna Said which is quite crowded. "The second problem is congestion. If it can be carried out at night, don't do it during rush hours," he continued.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out the demolition of the old monorail project pillar that is stuck along Jalan HR Rasuna Said in the near future. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asked that the demolition of the stalled monorail pillar in Rasuna Said be accelerated from the initial plan. The pillar will begin to be dismantled next week.

The DKI Provincial Government has allocated a budget of up to Rp. 100 billion to demolish the old monorail project pillars that are stuck along Jalan HR Rasuna Said and the arrangement of the area.

The funding is allocated directly from the 2026 DKI Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD). He is optimistic that the DKI Provincial Government has the budget even though it is still in the early years.

"The total is around Rp. 100 billion. The payment is not at the beginning of the year. It depends on the process," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Department of Binar Marga Heru Suwondo.

In the initial stage, the demolition will be carried out by the Yellow Force of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office. Heru emphasized that his party was ready to immediately dismantle the old monorail project pole that was not completed.

"If we want it to be ready. So because Mr. Gub asked to be dismantled next Wednesday, yes we will carry it out. Because all the rules have been fulfilled. So yes we will do the demolition and we will manage Jalan Rasuna Said," said Heru.

In the demolition of the pole, the DKI Provincial Government also carried out pavement arrangement to road repairs. Later, there will be no more separation between fast lanes and slow lanes because the pole in the middle of the lane has been dismantled.

"Later the fast lane and slow lane separators will disappear, just like on the west side of Jalan Rasuna Said. There the road and sidewalk are already neat. So we will make the road the same as Rasuna Said on the west side. Where there is one busway lane, three regular lanes. The east side will be made the same way," he added.
