JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR Hasbiallah Ilyas welcomed the government's positive step in increasing the allowance for judges starting in 2026.

He hopes that the policy contained in Government Regulation (PP) Number 42 of 2025 can improve the integrity of the judicial institution, as well as eradicate the practice of the legal mafia that has harmed justice in Indonesia.

"We appreciate President Prabowo's real commitment to the welfare of judges. However, this must be a turning point. The state has fulfilled the rights of judges, now it is time for judges to fulfill the people's right to clean and honest justice," Hasbi told reporters, Wednesday, January 7.

According to him, this improvement in welfare must be accompanied by an increase in the morality and professionalism of judges. With this policy, he emphasized, there is no longer any reason for God's representatives to be involved in the practice of "main affairs" after the state provides a very decent income appreciation.

"The lack of welfare so far is often an excuse for case brokers to influence the judge's decision. So with this increase in welfare, this shouldn't happen again," said the PKB legislator from the DKI Jakarta District.

Hasbiallah also highlighted a series of heartbreaking cases that dragged judges to high-ranking officials at the Supreme Court in the circle of corruption and the judicial mafia. In fact, he said, two former secretaries of the Supreme Court were also dragged into the case of alleged judicial mafia.

"We must not turn a blind eye to the fact that our judicial integrity is being tested by the many judges who have been caught in the act. With this significant increase in income, we hope that these temptations will be closed. Law enforcement must run more optimally and without material intervention," he said.

To note, based on the new rules, judges' allowances have undergone significant adjustments at various levels. In the High Court (PT) / Court of Appeal, the PT Chairman receives up to IDR 110.5 million per month.

Then, the Principal Deputy Judge is IDR 95.5 million per month. Special Class IA Court: The Court's Chairman receives IDR 87.2 million per month. The first judge (the lowest level) receives IDR 61.2 million per month.

Hasbiallah Ilyas reminded, with an income of hundreds of millions of rupiah per month, the public demands a higher ethical standard for judges. He hopes that judges in public, religious, and State Administration (TUN) courts can decide cases impartially and with full independence.

"Starting today, parties to a lawsuit no longer need to worry that the judge's decision is influenced by external factors or money. Judges must be straight on the subject matter and conscience," said Hasbi.

"If after the increase in allowances, there are still those who play with the case, then the punishment must be much heavier and there is no tolerance anymore," he added.
