Fire on Mount Picung Cianjur Successfully Extinguished

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that the forest and land fires (karhutla) that hit the hilly area of Mount Picung, Cianjur Regency, West Java, had been successfully extinguished and are now under control.

Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Dodi Yuleova, said that the burned object was an area of dry alang-alang vegetated land so that the fire quickly spread due to the wind.

"The incident occurred in the hilly area of Mount Picung, specifically on land overgrown with reeds in Cikondang Village, Cibeber District," said Dodi Yuleova as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 12.

It is not yet known for sure what triggered the fire. The fire was first detected on Monday (10/8) afternoon at around 17.30 WIB until it quickly spread to burn an area of three hectares in the hilly area.

A joint team was deployed to carry out a ground watering shutdown to the area known as the tourist village.

"Thanks to the integrated handling on the ground, the efforts to locate the fire point are effective so that the fire does not spread to residential areas or the surrounding areas," he said.

Dodi ensured that emergency handling in the field had been completed and the location of the fire was confirmed to be safe, which was under the supervision of officers so that it was free from the potential for subsequent fire spread.

"The current condition of the fire has been declared completely extinguished," he said.
