BOGOR - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian emphasized that the Post-disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas) formed by President Prabowo Subianto will be focused on the recovery of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
The statement was made by Tito after he was appointed by President Prabowo Subianto as chairman of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Post-disaster Sumatra.
"This is a disaster for Sumatra, three provinces, 52 regencies/cities," said Tito after a ministerial retreat at the Garuda Yaksa Training Center, Bojongkoneng Village, Hambalang, Bogor, Tuesday, January 6 evening.
Tito said this task force has a main task which includes the restoration of educational infrastructure, road development, housing, health facilities, to public services.
President Prabowo is said not to specifically target the deadline for the recovery of the Sumatra coast. However, the existence of the task force is expected to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction in the three affected provinces.
After being officially formed, the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction acceleration task force immediately worked. Tito said he would hold a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Task Force, Lieutenant General TNI Richard Tampubolon, on Wednesday (7/1/2026), to formulate structured steps in efforts to accelerate the recovery of Sumatra.
The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that the command for handling disasters was still under the auspices of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). However, BNPB focuses on the emergency response period, while the task force he leads handles the rehabilitation and reconstruction stages of the affected areas.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto formed the Task Force for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Post-Sumatra Disaster. He appointed Tito Karnavian as chairman.
The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi conveyed that President Prabowo considered Tito's capacity as a minister of home affairs to be appropriate to lead the recovery of the Sumatra disaster, which has widespread impacts.
"Because this time the disaster that has affected the three provinces is quite extensive. In his capacity as Minister of the Interior, the President has considered and believes that under the Minister of Home Affairs can be better coordinated," said Prasetyo after the ministerial retreat in Hambalang.
