JAKARTA - The Ministry of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) said a woman with the initials RH (19), a suspect in the murder of her unborn baby, can be charged with multiple articles.
"The perpetrator can be charged with imprisonment under Article 80 Paragraph 3 and 4 of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection, which can be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison and/or a maximum fine of Rp. 3 billion and can be increased by 1/3 because the perpetrator is the biological mother," said Assistant Deputy for Providing Services to Children in Need of Special Protection of the Ministry of PPPA Ciput Eka Purwianti when contacted in Jakarta, Monday, quoted by Antara.
In addition, he continued, the perpetrator was also charged with Articles 340, 341, and 342 of the Criminal Code which regulate the crime of murder, where the maximum penalty is death or life imprisonment or a maximum of 20 years.
The Ministry of PPPA expressed its condolences for the victim's death.
"The perpetrator's actions are crimes that cannot be tolerated. The perpetrator as the biological mother should take care of, protect, and take care of the victim properly," said Ciput Eka Purwianti.
On the other hand, this case occurred as an impact of child marriage.
"The perpetrator, who is currently 19 years old and has been married twice, proves that child marriage is still happening in society and poses a risk of violence against children and the quality of life of the next generation born," said Ciput Eka Purwianti.
Previously, police found pieces of a baby's body inside a septic tank in Jember Regency, East Java, on December 22, 2025. After the investigation, the police then named a woman with the initials RH, the victim's biological mother, as a murder suspect.
RH gave birth to the victim independently in the bathroom of his house. The suspect panicked because he gave birth suddenly and no one knew.
He finally committed violence against his baby and threw the body parts of his baby into a septic tank. Meanwhile, the other body parts of the victim were buried in the family cemetery.
The suspect is known to have been married twice and has never been pregnant. In the second marriage, the suspect has been divorced since June 2025. However, in December, the suspect gave birth to a baby boy.
