PEKANBARU - One of the Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) who was deported by Malaysia named Muhanip Bin Radi, died while waiting to be repatriated at the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Post (P4MI) in Dumai City, Riau Province.
Head of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Agency (BP3MI), Fanny Wahyu Kurniawan, said the deceased was recorded as a resident of Sikur Village, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
"He arrived at Dumai Port with 18 other PMI on Saturday (3/1). The deceased was one of the 19 problematic PMI who were deported from the Kemayan Immigration Detention Depot (DTI), Pahang, Malaysia," said Fanny, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 5.
He said the 19 PMI who were deported from Malaysia arrived at around 16.20 WIB using the ship Indomal Regal. The PMI underwent immigration document checks, health checks, and data collection by BP3MI Riau and P4MI Dumai City.
The PMI was then taken to the PMI Friendly House at P4MI Dumai to receive assistance, protection, and distribution services related to the dangers of working abroad non-procedurally.
Muhanip, said Fanny, was also observed to have experienced a decline in his health condition shortly after arriving in Dumai.
"Based on the report of the officers, the victim suddenly lost consciousness after taking a bath and sitting with his colleagues," explained Fanny.
The victim was given first aid by officers and fellow PMI colleagues. Then immediately evacuated to the Awal Bros Dumai Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
However, after a medical examination, the hospital stated that Muhanip had died on Saturday evening at around 20.20 WIB.
"The victim's body was transferred to Dumai Hospital and placed in a cooling room while waiting for the repatriation process to the area of origin," said Fanny.
BP3MI Riau has coordinated with BP3MI NTB to search for the address of the deceased's family and ensure that the repatriation process goes smoothly.
"All the costs of repatriating the body are borne by the state through the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Ministry (KP2MI/BP2MI), including the provision of ambulances to delivery to East Lombok," said Fanny.
