BMKG warns, rain and lightning are potentially occurring today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that some major cities in Indonesia have the potential to experience rainy weather with various intensities, some of which are predicted to be accompanied by lightning.

BMKG Praktirawan Diah Ayu explained that cloudy conditions were predicted to occur in the Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Padang and Bengkulu regions.

"There is the potential for light rain in Medan, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung as well as parts of Java and most of Kalimantan," said Diah.

In detail, for the Sumatra region, there is the potential for light rain in Medan, Bandar Lampung and Pangkal Pinang, and rain accompanied by lightning in the Jambi region.

In the Java Island area, he explained, BMKG predicted light rain to fall in the Jakarta, Serang and Bandung areas, and thunderstorms in Surabaya and heavy cloudy weather in Yogyakarta.

He said for Kalimantan, BMKG mapped the potential for light rain in a certain period today in the Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, Palangkaraya and Banjarmasin areas.

For the central area of Indonesia, there is the potential for light rain in Denpasar and lightning rain in Kupang and cloudy weather in Mataram.

BMKG also predicts that light rain will occur in Gorontalo, Palu and Makassar. There is a potential for moderate rain in Manado and Mamuju and rain accompanied by lightning in Kendari.

Diah explained that in eastern Indonesia, cloudy weather is predicted to occur in the Ambon area and light rain in Sorong, Manokwari and Jayapura, as well as moderate intensity rain in Ternate, Nabire and Jayawijaya and lightning rain in Merauke.
