Kaops: 100 young people from Yahukimo were recruited as members of KKB

JAYAPURA - Head of Operations of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani revealed that the Armed Criminal Group or KKB is currently recruiting around 100 young people in Dekai to become their members.

The recruitment was allegedly carried out to strengthen the KKB personnel in the Yahukimo area, Papua Mountain Province.

"Young people who are recruited to become members of the KKB are on average under the age of 21," said Faizal Rahmadani in Jayapura, Papua, Wednesday, December 31.

He said the recruitment was revealed after the Cartenz Peace Task Force arrested several KKB members, including Junior Bocor Sobolim who was killed while being arrested in Dekaipada on November 6, 2025.

The personnel of the Cartenz Peace Task Force then carried out an in-depth investigation until it was revealed that 100 young people had been recruited by the Yahukimo KKB.

The recruitment carried out by KKB is suspected to strengthen the group's presence.

"The young people who were recruited were suspected of not going to school and not having jobs so they were easily influenced," said Faizal, adding that the phenomenon should be a concern for all parties.

For the legal area of the Papua Police, the security disruption carried out by the KKB in Yahukimo Regency was the highest, resulting in 35 people dying.

"In the future, this will receive attention so that they are given the opportunity to work by providing training that prioritizes the local government and stakeholders in the region, in addition to law enforcement which will still be carried out for those who commit violations," said Faizal Rahmadani who also serves as Deputy Head of the Papua Police.
