JAKARTA - South Korean President Lee Jae Myung made his first trip to the office at Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House) on Monday, after the official relocation of the presidential office to the historic complex about seven months after he took office.

The convoy of vehicles carrying President Lee passed through the front gate of the main building at around 9:10 a.m., while dozens of supporters waved the national flag and shouted his name near the entrance to the complex.

At Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee met with his staff while drinking tea, including National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac and Kim Yong-beom, the head of presidential policy, as well as other senior officials, reported The Korea Times (29/12)

President Lee is scheduled to visit the National Crisis Management Center inside the complex to review military readiness, his office said.

Previously, the presidential flag featuring two phoenixes was raised at midnight on Sunday local time, officially restoring the name Cheong Wa Dae.

President Lee's main office will be in the Yeomin Building Complex, about 500 meters from the main building that houses aides and senior staff, which is expected to help improve closer communication with officials.

The iconic main building with its blue roof will mainly be used for formal events, such as summit meetings and the ceremony of handing over letters of credence.

Yesterday, the Presidential Security Service said it had completed a joint security inspection with 14 agencies, including the National Intelligence Service, police and military.

The inspection covered major facilities at Cheong Wa Dae and the surrounding mountains, focusing on the risk of eavesdropping and information and communication systems.

Because the official residence is still under renovation after it was previously opened to the public under the previous administration, President Lee will continue to commute from his current residence in Hannam-dong for the time being, according to his office.

Lee's predecessor, ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol, had moved the office to the defense ministry compound in Seoul's Yongsan district when he took office in 2022.
