JAKARTA - The Jakarta Planetarium has reopened to the public since December 25 after being closed for 13 years.

As the reopening begins on December 25, 2025, the DKI Provincial Government has prepared a special policy in the form of free access for students for the first three months.

The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, said that the policy was aimed at encouraging student and school visits to the Planetarium as part of learning outside the classroom.

"There is a special policy from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in the form of free access for students for the first three months, by showing a student card or KJP," Chico told reporters, Sunday, December 28.

In addition to individual visits, the DKI Provincial Government also opens the opportunity for school groups to arrange special schedules with the Planetarium manager.

Chico said that students were the main segment targeted in the reopening of the Jakarta Planetarium. However, this facility is also open to various groups of people with a ticket price of Rp. 10 thousand per person for one show.

"The main target is students, students, the science community, families, and the general public. Especially students are the main priority, considering the role of the planetarium as an inclusive public education facility," said Chico.

After being revitalized, the Jakarta Planetarium is said to come with a number of facility and technology updates. Visitors can now enjoy a more modern space simulation show than before.

In addition, the Planetarium is also equipped with digital guide innovations based on artificial intelligence and updates to supporting facilities.

"There is also an interactive AI Virtual Host innovation to provide explanations about astronomy and the history of the planetarium. Supporting facilities such as air-conditioned waiting areas, ample parking, and educational spaces have also been updated for visitor convenience," explained Chico.

In its concept, the Jakarta Planetarium is directed as an educational science and space tourism destination that emphasizes interactive experiences. He added, the Planetarium not only displays artificial sky performances, but also encourages a deeper learning experience.

With this update, the DKI Provincial Government hopes that the Planetarium will again play a role in the Jakarta education and tourism ecosystem, especially reviving the science education icon of the legacy of the former Governor of DKI Jakarta Ali Sadikin as a flagship educational tourist destination in Jakarta.

"The planetarium is expected to be an inclusive, relevant, and easily accessible space, thus strengthening the capital's educational tourism ecosystem, attracting domestic and foreign tourists, and supporting the transformation of Jakarta as a global city of culture and science," he added.
