BANDUNG - The Bandung City Police said that the seven perpetrators who placed a bomb-like object in front of the Protestant Christian Church of Simalungun (GKPS) in Bandung City on Friday (19/12) were motivated by the creation of video content.
The head of the Bandung Police, Kombes Budi Sartono, said that the seven perpetrators were arrested after the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bandung Police conducted a series of investigations based on evidence.
"So after we did the in-depth investigation, it turned out that the seven young people again made the wrong video content, one of which was blowing up a shop," said Budi in Bandung, Wednesday, December 24, reported by ANTARA.
Budi said based on the temporary statement from the suspects, they admitted not knowing the location where they put the content property near the house of worship.
"Because we have to know this in the Christmas atmosphere. So yes, this atmosphere is also quite noisy and also makes us restless. If from their statements they do not know that there is a place of worship," he said.
Budi said after the examination of the bomb-like object, it did not contain explosives.
"When it was broken down, the contents were cables, packages, and pieces of wooden sticks in the shape of a box, so it resembled explosives," said Budi.
He said that at this time the suspects were still undergoing further examination and applied a number of articles against the perpetrators for their actions.
According to him, the suspects were charged with Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning the Eradication of Terrorism, Article 175 of the Criminal Code and Article 335 of the Criminal Code.
"The threat of punishment is quite high, at least five years in prison, but the motives and roles of each are still being investigated," he said.
