Minister of Imipas: 16,078 Inmates Receive Christmas Remission 2025

JAKARTA - Minister of Immigration and Correction (Imipas) Agus Andrianto said that as many as 16,078 Christian and Catholic inmates who have met the requirements for receiving remission on the momentum of Christmas 2025.

The government through the Directorate General of Corrections provided a special Christmas remission (RK) to 15,927 inmates as well as a special Christmas reduction in prison sentence (PMPK) to 151 inmates. Of that number, 174 inmates were immediately free.

"This is not just a reduction in the length of the sentence, but a form of appreciation for achievements, dedication, and discipline in following the training," said Agus in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 14.

He said the remission policy and reduction of the prison term were manifestations of the state's presence in guaranteeing the rights of inmates. This policy is also part of a system of guidance that is human-oriented and restorative.

"This is a training instrument to encourage better behavior, strengthen motivation, and prepare the residents to be ready to return and play a positive role in the community," he said.

In terms of institutions, Agus said that the granting of remission and reduction of prison terms on Christmas momentum also created a more conducive coaching climate and reduced overcrowding in prisons and special children's training institutions.

He further advised the inmates to make their families a motivation to stay on God's path while always improving themselves, as the theme of Christmas 2025 "God is Coming to Save the Family".

"Be responsible for all the deeds you do. Be responsible for your wife, children, husband, and parents. Don't do anything that harms them, let alone repeating the same mistake," said Minister Agus.

The Minister of Imipas also asked all inmates who received remission and reduction of their prison terms to continue to show changes and be serious about preparing themselves to return to society.

Meanwhile, Director General of Corrections (Dirjenpas) Mashudi explained that the recipients of RK and PMPK Christmas had met the administrative and substantive requirements in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.

Mashudi ensured that the process of giving RK and PMPK was carried out according to an accountable and transparent mechanism.

"All recipients of Christmas remission and PMPK are inmates who behave well, actively participate in the training program, and show a decrease in risk," he said.

In addition to having an impact on the aspect of training, the provision of Christmas RK and PMPK is also said to contribute to the efficiency of state budgets. According to the Director General, the total savings on the cost of eating inmates and inmates were recorded at Rp9,478,462,500.
