JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recorded 175 people as still missing and included in the post-disaster search list for natural disasters that hit a number of areas in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. The number has decreased compared to the previous day.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that as of Monday, December 22, the number of victims who were still being sought had decreased by 10 people.

"Then for the list of names that are still being sought, this has been reduced by 10 souls, so the number of our brothers who are still on the search list is 175 souls," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Tuesday, December 23 morning.

BNPB also noted the latest developments regarding the impact of casualties. Until now, the number of dead victims who have been found and identified has reached 1,106 people. Meanwhile, the number of affected residents who have been displaced is still quite large, namely 502,570 people spread across various evacuation locations.

Entering the third week of December 2025, Abdul explained, some refugees began to return to their respective homes. However, the return is generally temporary, especially to clean the house from mud and debris. Some others choose to stay temporarily at relatives' houses outside the affected areas.

During the emergency response period, the basic needs of refugees, especially food needs, continue to be met. Logistic support comes from the Aceh Provincial Social Service, public kitchens managed by the local government, as well as community and volunteer initiatives.

Abdul added, currently BNPB and all stakeholders are entering a crucial phase because the emergency response period is scheduled to end on December 25, 2025. Therefore, further discussions will be held regarding the possibility of extending the emergency response period or switching to the emergency transition phase towards recovery.

"The completion is December 25, 2025. This will be discussed with the local government and the central government, with all the entities involved, whether we will extend the emergency response or we can enter the emergency transition," he explained.

In this emergency response phase, there are five priority aspects that continue to be the focus, namely the search and rescue of victims, logistics distribution, road access recovery, communication network recovery, and energy sector recovery, including electricity and fuel.

BNPB hopes that by the end of December 2025, all affected districts and cities can enter the early recovery phase. President Prabowo Subianto also expressed the hope that the recovery process would go quickly so that affected residents could occupy temporary housing (huntara) before entering Ramadan.

"The President conveyed his hope that later in Ramadan, in relation to the massive cleaning and huntara that have been built, the affected residents can move to the huntara," concluded Abdul.
