The boat of the Aceh Deputy Governor's entourage overturned while crossing the river, no casualties

JAKARTA - An emergency raft carrying a group of Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah crossing a river in the Pameu area, Central Aceh Regency, overturned.

"There were no casualties in the incident, everyone is safe," said the Head of the Aceh Regional Government's Administrative Leadership Bureau (Adpim), Akkar Arafat, in Banda Aceh, Sunday.

The incident occurred when the entourage visited the community in the Pameu area, Central Aceh Regency, which is still isolated due to damage to infrastructure after the flood and landslide disasters.

The visit was carried out to obtain a real picture of the impact of the disaster and to ensure that the basic needs of the community are met.

On the way to the location, said Akkar, the entourage of the Deputy Governor of Aceh together with the General Manager of PLN had to take an alternative route by crossing the river using an emergency raft.

When crossing, the emergency raft overturned, causing Fadhlullah and his entourage to fall into the river. They were successfully evacuated safely by TNI soldiers along with the local community.

Akkar emphasized that the visit to Central Aceh was part of a series of efforts by the Aceh Government to deal with the impact of disasters which had also damaged infrastructure and settlements, as well as disrupted social and economic activities of the community, especially in remote areas. Through the presence of regional leaders in the field, the Aceh Government hopes that cross-sectoral coordination can be strengthened, and the distribution of assistance can be accelerated.

"The hope is that the process of restoring infrastructure and basic services for affected communities can be carried out immediately, measured, and sustainable," said Akkar Arafat.
