2-Week-Old Baby Dies of Hypothermia in Gaza Struck by Winter

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Ministry of Health said a 2-week-old baby boy died of hypothermia when Gaza was hit by a winter with extreme rain.

Citing Timesofisrael, Wednesday, December 16, the baby named Mohammed Khalil Abu al-Khair died after undergoing intensive care at the hospital since Sunday, December 14.

It was not mentioned where the al-Khair family lived or the hospital where the baby died on Monday, December 15.

Separately, the Palestinian Civil Defense Agency said one person was killed when a house in the Shati refugee camp on the northern coast of Gaza collapsed due to high-intensity rain and strong winds on Tuesday morning, December 16.

The victim was inside the house with several members of his family who were declared safe.

The agency did not disclose the age and name of the victim. However, a number of people were reported injured due to the rain.

The agency also recorded 10 people dead due to building collapses and cold during the winter in Gaza.

According to the UN, more than half of the buildings in Gaza have been destroyed since Israel carried out a ground invasion, and about 40 percent of the remaining buildings are severely or moderately damaged.
