SEMARANG - Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq admitted that there were limitations to the personnel who carried out environmental management supervision to ensure the sustainability of nature.
"There is a serious gap between our environmental management and the unit that oversees it," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 16.
He said that environmental supervisory personnel, ranging from districts/cities, provinces, and the national level, are less than 3,000 people, while the units of business being supervised reach 5.5 million.
Therefore, he invited the university community to help the government in preserving the natural environment, especially in conjunction with the UI GreenMetric event.
"You can imagine how we will handle this environment. So it is an interesting solution if we work together to become a force in order to fulfill our environmental management," he said.
For information, the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an international ranking initiated by the University of Indonesia since 2010.
The ranking assesses the commitment and performance of universities based on six main indicators, including regulation and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation systems, and education and research.
"We have very high targets from the environmental capacity without the support of the university it is impossible for us to do so on this occasion I am very serious about asking UI GreenMetric to be 'scaled up' again," he said.

On that occasion, Undip managed to maintain the second national ranking in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025, namely as the most sustainable university in Indonesia, fourth in Asia, and 23rd in the world.

As the host, Undip also won an award in the main category, namely the Most Sustainable University in the Energy and Climate Change Sector in Indonesia.
