The Government Withdraws 22 Forest Utilization Permits Covering 1 million hectares

JAKARTA - Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni reported that the government revoked 22 Forest Utilization Business Permits (PBPH) with a total area of 1,012,016 hectares nationwide.

During the plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Raja Juli said the revocation of the permit was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's previous limited order.

"Part of the forest area regulation, today, we revoked 22 Forest Utilization Business Permits covering an area of 1,012,016 hectares," said Raja Juli as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 15.

However, Raja Juli emphasized that the 22 PBPH were throughout Indonesia, not the three provinces on the island of Sumatra that were affected by flash floods.

This step has been carried out since February 3, 2025. In the previous phase, the government has disciplined about 500 thousand hectares of forest areas.

Thus, the government has disciplined around 1.5 million hectares of problematic PBPH during President Prabowo's administration.

In addition to revoking permits, the government has also followed up on the enforcement aspect. The Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH) has identified a number of cases in three provinces (Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra), especially related to driftwood during the recent floods in Sumatra.

According to Raja Juli, legal proceedings will be carried out against companies related to illegal logging.

"So, God willing, the public's concern about the origin of the money and also the actions of damaging forests and the environment, we will announce to the public as soon as possible," he added.

Previously, the Forest Area Regulation Task Force (Satgas PKH) ensured that it would prosecute legal subjects who caused flood and landslide disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"The PKH Task Force has taken steps to identify criminal acts and will further ensure who is criminally responsible for the disaster that occurred," said the Head of the PKH Task Force Implementation Team and also the Head of the Attorney General's Office, Febrie Adriansyah, at the Attorney General's Office Building, Jakarta, Monday.
