JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government together with the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia is preparing the implementation of social work criminalization which will take effect starting January 2026. The preparation was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung and the Head of the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office.
The cooperation is part of the implementation of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code which opens up alternative criminal space in the form of social work.
The Deputy Attorney General for General Crime at the Attorney General's Office, Asep Nana Mulyana, said that the implementation of social work sentences would be carried out through coordination between the Attorney General's Office and the local government, with a scheme that is tailored to the needs of each region.
"This is related to the implementation of social work as a mandate rather than the 2023 Law 1 which will take effect later on January 1, 2026," said Asep Nana at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, December 15.
According to him, the concrete form of social work in Jakarta will be formulated together between the High Prosecutor's Office and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. So far, Jakarta is said to still need manpower support in the public service sectors.
"Earlier the Governor told us that he needed a lot of Yellow Forces, he would help clean up Jakarta. There will be White Forces, then they will also help the Governor in relation to how to help maintain Jakarta and so on," said Asep Nana.

Meanwhile, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung assessed that the implementation of this social work criminal sanction has direct benefits for Jakarta, especially to strengthen social services that are still lacking in manpower that can be done by the residents.
"So if this cooperation can be implemented, especially for the White Forces whose main task is for the disabled and the elderly, I believe this will have a big impact on Jakarta. Because we still lack that," said Pramono.
He hopes that the social work penalty can be directed at public service sectors that are in direct contact with the needs of citizens, so that its implementation is not merely a sanction, but also adds value to society.
"Jakarta has 31 hospitals, 44 health centers at the sub-district level, and 267 auxiliary health centers. So if the (residents) who are trained can work together in that sector, it will be very beneficial for Jakarta," he concluded.
