Prabowo: Disaster Management is Not the Result of Sayya, it is the Hard Work of Us All

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the achievements in handling the impact of disasters in Sumatra were not the result of his work alone, but were collective from all elements of the government and field officers.

"I don't understand that too many people thank me. I think please convey that it is not really my result. It is the result of our cooperation, especially those in the field," said Prabowo in the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, December 15, reported by ANTARA.

The President assessed that the appreciation of the community, which is often directed to him, is a natural thing, in line with the presence of the central government in the affected areas.

However, Prabowo considers the appreciation as a form of appreciation for the entire team, from the central government, local government, to the officers who work directly in the field.

In his instructions, the Head of State also highlighted the role of officers in the field who worked hard for weeks, even to the point of losing their lives in an effort to help affected people.

The President emphasized that the responsibility of a leader is inherent, both when conditions are going well and when problems arise.

Therefore, Prabowo expressed gratitude for the hard work of all levels of government that made the public feel the presence of the state during the crisis when disasters occurred.

"Our people are simple, yes. If the Central Government is present or elements from the Central Government are present, they must know that this is Mr. Prabowo, Mr. President. I think it's normal for people to think like that. On the other hand, if nothing goes well, then the President is also responsible. So, yes, that's the risk of a leader," said Prabowo.

"So, I am grateful that I have brothers who have worked hard so that the people are grateful to me. But I think the thanks to me is a thank you to all of us, our team, the Central Government, the local government, all governments," he added.

In addition, the President also noted that there were still regional heads who were judged to have shown less support to the people in critical situations. However, Prabowo said that in general the government ranks showed firmness and determination in carrying out their duties.

"There are regents, maybe, one-on-one people, yes, who, according to me, are less loyal to the people in critical times, leave the place for all kinds of reasons, yes. But others I see are tough, tough. So, I want to thank all the officers in the field, yes, all levels," he said.

Prabowo also expressed his appreciation to all officers and officials who were directly involved in the field, including ministers, deputy ministers, heads of agencies, heads of SOEs, and technical ministries such as the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Health, who were present and actively working in handling the impact of disasters.
