JAKARTA - Former DKI Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo responded to the discourse on appointing him as chairman of the Betawi customary assembly which will be confirmed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung.

This institution will later shelter all Betawi community organizations (ormas) in Jakarta. The formation of the Betawi customary assembly is one of the recommendations of the Special Betawi Congress in 2025 which was held on October 18.

This was conveyed by Foke in the submission of the results of the Special Congress of the Betawi People to Pramono for follow-up. Foke admitted that he was ready to carry out his duties to lead the customary assembly later.

"It's all my burden, my responsibility. The Governor whispered, 'You can do it if you are burdened like this?' For me, "there is no choice, sir. I will tell you later," said Foke at the MH Thamrin Museum, Central Jakarta, Monday, December 15.

Foke, who is also the Chairman of the Betawi People's Council (MKB), admitted that the results of the congress had become an agreement by the majority of Betawi community organizations (ormas) in Jakarta. Therefore, Foke hopes that Pramono will immediately follow up on the formation of the Betawi customary assembly.

"Honorable Governor, we only ask for one. Please strengthen the results of this congress decision. So that the customary institution can become a partner in line with the Jakarta Special District Provincial Government, to jointly organize our Betawi village, our city together," said Foke.

Previously, Pramono admitted that he would appoint Foke as the chairman of the Betawi customary assembly. Pramono emphasized that the Betawi customary assembly would be in a position parallel to the DKI Provincial Government in the form of a partnership to advance Betawi culture.

"Later, I will give full authority to Bang Foke, Mr. Fauzi Bowo, as the person agreed upon. All of them just conveyed sami'na wa atho'na to Bang Foke, so that this is what I hold as the Governor to follow up," said Pramono.

Furthermore, Pramono promised to complete the process of forming the Betawi customary assembly as well as determining the name of the institution this week. What is clear, Pramono will issue a strong legal umbrella as the basis for the establishment of the Betawi customary assembly.

"I know for sure that this will make the authority of this institution in the eyes of anyone very respectable, very high. The most important thing is, if it is decided later, you all have to really follow it," explained Pramono.

"I personally and as the Governor of Jakarta feel grateful if later the community or the Betawi people become one. I consider the Betawi indigenous people as a partner, a partner of the Jakarta government. For this reason, we will immediately realize it," he added.
