Member of Commission V of the House of Representatives Teguh Iswara Suardi asked the government to increase emergency posts during the implementation of the 2025 Christmas and New Year holidays (Nataru).
He emphasized that public safety must be the top priority amid increasing mobility and the threat of extreme weather.
"The state must not be complacent and must be present in a tangible way through an integrated and responsive readiness system," Teguh told reporters, Monday, December 15.
Teguh appreciates the steps taken by Basarnas which has formed standby units at the district level, especially in disaster-prone areas. However, he asked the ministries and agencies to continue to strengthen cross-sectoral coordination so that the unit can work more optimally.
"It will be much more effective if the Basarnas standby unit is integrated with the Ministry of PU, transportation, and the police. With clear coordination, handling in the field can be faster, more accurate, and measurable," said Teguh.
The NasDem legislator from the South Sulawesi II District also highlighted the importance of the readiness of integrated posts that have been determined based on risk analysis and simulation. Teguh emphasized that the post should not just be a formality, but must be truly ready to serve the community in emergency conditions.
"The post is not a symbol. It must be equipped with adequate facilities, including health services, especially for pregnant women and vulnerable groups. This concerns the safety of life," he said.
Apart from emergency preparedness, Teguh also highlighted the issue of driver fatigue, which is often a trigger for traffic accidents. He assessed that the existence of parking lots and rest areas is very crucial, especially on the island of Java, which is the center of the movement of the Nataru homecoming and return flow.
"Drivers need space to stop and rest. These parking bags and rest areas are not additional facilities, but a basic need to prevent accidents due to fatigue," he said.

Teguh emphasized that extreme weather that almost always accompanies the Nataru period must now be seen as the new normal.
Therefore, he asked the BMKG to strengthen education and early warning to the public with a more creative and massive approach.
"Weather education can no longer be done in a normal way. It must be out of the box, utilizing social media, conventional media, even direct messages such as WhatsApp blasts so that information really reaches the community," he said.
Teguh hopes that the implementation of Nataru will take place safely with the strengthening of synergy between institutions, readiness of infrastructure, and increased public awareness.
"We hope that this year's implementation of Nataru can take place safely, smoothly, and minimize the risk of accidents throughout Indonesia," he concluded.
