JAKARTA - Malaysian authorities stated that one of its citizens is still missing and has not been found after the flash floods and landslides that hit Sumatra. This was conveyed by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an official statement quoted in Kuala Lumpur.

In his statement, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Malaysian Consulate General in Medan continues to coordinate with Indonesian authorities for the search process.

"The SAR operation to search for Malaysian citizens who were reported missing due to landslides in Padang Panjang is now entering its 15th day. Search efforts continue, and the Consulate General continues to provide consular support to the family," the statement was quoted as saying by Antara, Wednesday, December 10.

Previously, three elderly tourists from Malaysia who had reportedly disappeared had been found in Aceh and returned to Malaysia. In addition, another elderly citizen who could not be contacted has now returned to Malaysia after being contacted by his family.

According to Malaysian authorities, until now there have been no new reports of Malaysians being missing or affected by the ongoing situation in Sumatra.

The Malaysian government urges its citizens who are located or passing through affected areas to remain vigilant, pay attention to weather developments, and comply with instructions from Indonesian authorities.

The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also asked residents in the area to report their whereabouts to the closest Malaysian representatives and maintain communication with their families.

"Trians who need assistance, or families who cannot contact relatives in affected areas are advised to immediately contact the Consulate General," wrote the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.

Flash floods and landslides hit Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra on Thursday, November 27. Access to a number of affected areas is now starting to improve, making the SAR team able to reach more locations as road clearing efforts continue.

Conditions in some areas are gradually recovering, especially in districts that are starting to enter the initial recovery phase. However, a number of hinterland areas, such as in Aceh Tamiang, West Sumatra, and the Tapanuli region, are still experiencing access problems, supply constraints, and the recovery of basic services.
