BMKG: Beware Of Heavy Rain And Strong Winds In North Sumatra

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be aware of the potential for moderate to heavy rain that can be accompanied by strong winds in parts of North Sumatra.

"Rain with moderate to heavy intensity still has the potential to occur in parts of North Sumatra on Sunday (7/12)," said BMKG Region I forecaster Budi Hutasoit in Medan, Saturday.

In general, the weather in North Sumatra on Sunday (7/12) was cloudy and has the potential for light to moderate rain in several areas. Rain with moderate intensity can occur in Mandailing Natal, South Tapanuli and its surroundings.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon to evening, there is also the potential for rain with light to moderate intensity, almost evenly distributed throughout North Sumatra.

And at night it is cloudy and has the potential for light to moderate rain in most parts of North Sumatra.

Rain with moderate intensity can occur in Padangsidimpuan, Mandailing Natal, Padang Lawas, North Padanglawas, South Tapanuli and Toba.

And in the early hours of the morning there is also the potential for moderate intensity rain in most parts of North Sumatra, especially in Central Tapanuli and its surroundings.

The average air temperature is 13-31 degrees Celsius, humidity is 70 to 100 percent and the wind is blowing from South to West at a speed of 3-7 km per hour.

"The public is advised to be aware of the potential for moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by strong winds and lightning on the western slopes, eastern slopes, west coast, east coast and North Sumatra mountains which can cause hydrometeorological disasters in the form of floods, landslides and strong winds," he said.
