JAKARTA - A senior Palestinian militant group official Hamas told Al Arabiya on Friday the group did not wish to continue the government in the Gaza Strip, adding it had approved the formation of a technocratic committee to manage the enclave in the next stage.

The official said Hamas had approved all proposed names for the technocratic body, noting there was an internal agreement on the list.

He added that despite progress in negotiations, Israel had hindered the practical implementation of agreed measures in the field, according to Al Arabiya (5/12).

The Hamas official further said the deployment of international troops would be strictly restricted to monitor the ceasefire, instead of managing Gaza or taking part in internal governance.

Their role, he explained, was to separate the warring parties and prevent new clashes.

He added that midfield countries support the provision of a role of monitoring to any international forces deployed as part of a ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey came into force on October 10, ending a two-year war sparked by a deadly Hamas-led attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, which has destroyed the narrow coastal path.

However, both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
