TNI Prepares Operation For Modification Of Rainfall Weather In Sumatra

JAKARTA - Head of the TNI Information Center Major General TNI (Mar) Freddy Ardianzah said the Indonesian Air Force was preparing steps to carry out weather modification operations to reduce rainfall in the Sumatra region towards the end of December 2025.

This was done because the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted an increase in rainfall in the Sumatra region, especially at three points of flash floods, namely West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.

"Indeed (weather modification operations) are needed in disaster areas so that conditions and situations in disaster areas do not worsen and also do not complicate the evacuation process," said Freddy during a press conference at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, Friday, December 5.

Freddy explained that his party had provided the various defense equipment needed for weather modification operations, such as transport aircraft and other supporting equipment.

The TNI will also coordinate with the BMKG and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to carry out the weather modification operation.

With efforts to operate weather modifications, high rainfall Freddyoptimistics can be avoided so that the process of distributing logistics and evacuating victims affected by the disaster can run optimally.

Regarding the exact number of weather modification operations that will be carried out by the TNI, Freddy did not explain in detail.
