JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka tried to calm the victims of the Sumatra flash flood disaster at one of the evacuation posts in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Thursday, during his visit to inspect the locations of flash floods and landslides in Sumatra.

When he arrived at the evacuation post, Gibran approached the victim who was gathered and expressed his deepest condolences, and calmed that the people of Sumatra were not alone in facing this disaster.

"From Mr. President Prabowo, I express my deep condolences to all victims. I apologize beforehand. You are not alone, the people of Sumatra are not alone," said Gibran at the refugee post in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Thursday, December 4.

Gibran, who sits in the midst of refugee victims, conveyed greetings from President Prabowo Subianto and explained the President's order to accelerate post-disaster recovery in Sumatra.

While carrying a pocket book, Gibran also noted all input and complaints from disaster victims.

From West Sumatra, the Vice President then flew to South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. The trip was then continued to Aceh Singkil Regency, Aceh.

On the same occasion, Agam Regent Benni Warlis explained that Agam Regency was the most affected location and claimed many lives in West Sumatra.

"Our infrastructure, roads, bridges, fields that are buried, houses, there are milling businesses, then also the Vice President's bridge, these are all the most (affected) in Agam Regency," said Benni.

Benni noted that 169 victims had been found and 84 were reported missing. The number of victims who were in the evacuation post reached 15 thousand people, and 20 thousand residents are still isolated in a number of sub-districts in Agam Regency.
