JAKARTA - The search for victims buried by a landslide in Tinggam, Sinuruik Village, West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, began on Wednesday, December 3, using heavy excavators.
"The search began at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. As of 3:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, no victims suspected of being buried by the landslide had been found," said West Pasaman Deputy Regent M. Ihpan while reviewing the search for victims in Talamau District on Wednesday, as reported by Antara.
He stated that the search for the four victims is ongoing, with additional heavy equipment planned for today.
"Two pieces of heavy equipment have headed to the landslide site via the Lubuk Sikaping road in Pasaman Regency, as access to Rimbo Misteri Kajai and Pasanggiang Talu is still impassable by four-wheel drive," he said.
He stated that the search for victims buried by the landslide is being led by the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) team, assisted by the National Police (Polri), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and local residents.
While searching for victims, heavy equipment is also clearing water access, as the landslide site is flooded, making the search somewhat difficult.
He asked the public to entrust the joint team with the task of finding the victims as quickly as possible.
"Let's pray that the victims will be found quickly by the joint team," he said.
Of the two heavy equipment units that will arrive, one will clear the road to Bateh Samuik, facilitating the distribution of supplies to affected residents.
Mulyadi, the field coordinator from the West Pasaman Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, said his team is ready to work until the evening if weather permits.
"As of 3:00 PM WIB, the victims have still not been found," he said.
The Head of Sinuruik Village, Frianton, said the landslide in the area occurred on Friday (November 28) at around 4:00 AM WIB.
Five people were buried, and one victim, Yelma Yunita (41), was found dead on Monday (December 1) and has been buried.
Meanwhile, four other people, namely Raffael Gusti (7), Diam Fernanda (24), Amrizal (38) and Nurhayati (35) are still being searched for.
