KLH Ready To Involve University To Study Flood Areas

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment (KLH) will involve universities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra to conduct a study on the carrying capacity and capacity of the environment in the midst of company activities in flood-affected areas in the area.

Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq admitted that there was a change in the landscape of areas affected by floods and landslides in Sumatra, including near hydroelectric power plants (PLTA) and gold mines.

"I have ordered the Deputy for Environmental Management to contact fellow universities in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh to immediately conduct studies," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 1.

KLH and a number of universities in the region, previously had cooperation agreements. The study from the university will be a complement to the ongoing review efforts carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Environment (KLH/BPLH) related to the environmental approval of a number of companies in flood-affected areas.

Although related to the authority of the environmental approval document, it is divided between the KLH and the local government, he ensures that he will carry out a total evaluation.

"So, for environmental approval, we will re-analyze. We will scale up based on the calibration delivered by nature today. If he is unable, we will stop his environmental approval and we recommend to the technical minister to then change other activities that are friendly to nature," said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), as of Monday (1/12) afternoon, the number of fatalities in the three disaster-affected areas reached 604 people.

President Prabowo Subianto conducted a visit to the disaster-affected location on Monday. Weather modification operations were also carried out by the government in the Sumatra region to suppress rainfall in the area.
