The joint team of the TNI, Polri, BPBD, and volunteers evacuated 558 flood victims in South Aceh Regency, following increasing water discharge in the area.
The Commander of Kodim 0107 South Aceh Lt. Col. Inf. Andrino DN Lubis said the evacuation of residents of Central Trumon District had been going on since Friday (28/11) night. Hundreds of residents affected by the flood were taken to refugee camps.
"There were 558 flood victims in Central Trumon who were evacuated following the increase in flood discharge in the area. Currently, they are being placed in two refugee camps," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, November 29.
The evacuation points for flood victims are the main post in Company 1 Battalion C Pioneer of the Brimob Unit of the Aceh Police and the Cot Bayu Command Post, Central Trumon District.
He said the flood height had reached 150 centimeters. The flood conditions in the area are increasingly worrying, so residents need evacuation to a safer place.
"The high intensity of rain and the overflowing of river flows cause water to continue to rise and submerge residential areas. This situation forces quick and coordinated steps so that public safety is guaranteed," he said.
During the evacuation process, he said, the joint team crossed the puddle with a height of up to 150 centimeters and limited lighting. The joint team also ensured that the route passed was safe from heavy currents and materials carried by the flood.
The team continued to move through the night using rubber boats and evacuation safety equipment. Evacuation is prioritized by vulnerable groups, such as elderly residents, toddlers, children, and pregnant women.
"Keseamatan masyarakat adalah prioritas utama. Kami memastikan seluruh warga terdampak berada di lokasi aman. Kami juga meminta masyarakat tetap tenang, tidak panik, dan mengikuti arahan tim," kata Andrino DN Lubis.
The Dandim 0107 of South Aceh also instructed all village development officers (Babinsa) to continue to monitor flood-affected areas and coordinate with village officials, providing periodic development reports.
"This situation is not yet fully normal. All personnel are asked to remain alert. Synergy and speed of quick response are needed so that the community gets protection and assistance as quickly as possible," said Andrino DN Lubis.
