Flood Breaks Access, Chili Price Soars Crazy In Aceh Besar

ACEH besar - The price of red chili at Lambaro Main Market, Aceh Besar District, jumped drastically from Rp100,000 per kilogram (kg) to Rp200,000 per kg.

This fantastic increase was triggered by flooding and the disconnection of transportation routes from a number of producing areas in Aceh.

"The flooding that hit Aceh has disrupted the distribution of a number of commodities from producing areas because there are bridges that have been cut off so that they cannot be passed," said Acting Head of the Aceh Besar SME and Trade Cooperative Service (Diskoukmdag) Sulaimi in Lambaro, Antara, Friday, November 28.

In addition to red chilies, a number of other commodities also experienced a significant increase. The price of cayenne pepper rose from Rp. 30,000 to Rp. 80,000 per kg, shallots from Rp. 35,000 to Rp. 38,000 per kg, and broiler eggs from Rp. 57,000 per board (containing 30 grains) to Rp. 65,000 per board.

According to Sulaimi, the increase in chili prices occurred due to supplies from producing areas such as Pidie, Bener Meriah, and Takengon being hampered by floods.

Access to Bener Meriah and Central Aceh has also been cut off so that distribution has stalled and the stock in the market is increasingly limited.

"The supply in the market is minimal because the supply from producing areas is very limited," he said.

However, a number of basic necessities are still being monitored to be stable. Premium rice is sold for IDR 15,300 per kg, Stable Rice Supply and Food Price (SPHP) IDR 13,100 per kg, bulk cooking oil IDR 17,100 per liter, MinyaKita IDR 15,700 per kg, bulk sugar IDR 18,000 per kg, and wheat flour IDR 14,000 per kg.

Dinas Koperasi UKM dan Perdagangan Aceh Besar terus memantau perkembangan harga dan berkoordinasi dengan instansi terkait untuk memastikan kelancaran pasokan selama wilayah Aceh masih terdampak banjir.
